Cliffs of Moher, County Clare

The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions in County Clare. The Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of Clare. O'Brien's Tower stands proudly on a headland of the majestic Cliffs. From the Cliffs one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South.

The Cliffs of Moher are home to one of the major colonies of cliff nesting seabirds in Ireland. The area was designated as a Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds under the EU Birds Directive in 1986 and as a Refuge for Fauna in 1988.

Visitors of the Cliffs of Moher are encouraged to abide by the 7 principles of "Leave No Trace" which are: Plan ahead and Prepare / Be Considerate of Others / Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife / Travel and Camp on Durable Ground / Leave What You Find / Dispose of Waste Properly / Minimize the Effects of Fire

There are guided Nature Walks conducted by the Cliffs of Moher Rangers and Guides - these should be prebooked to avoid disappointment.
Visitor Centre

Opened in 2007 the grass roofed Visitor Centre is set into the hillside. The centre is a unique cave like structure which minimizes the visual impact on this fabulous scenic location and uses a range of energy saving and eco-friendly features including geo-thermal, solar energy and water recycling.

Inside you will find Atlantic Edge Exhibition Area, the Puffins Nest Cafe, the Long Dock Restaurant, the gift shop, a baggage store, accommodation booking and information points, graphic displays and images of the Cliffs including a stunning photo opportunity, public toilets, ATM and a fully equipped first aid room. The centre is fully wheelchair accessible. Friendly staff will answer questions, provide assistance, give directions and information on other attractions in the area.
