Kinsale, County Cork
Kinsale is a small harbour town in West Cork located just 18 miles outside of Cork City. The town was originally a medieval fishing port and in more recent times has become renowned for its gourmet food and picturesque views.
Due to the protected nature of the harbour Kinsale is ideal for water sports such as angling and yachting.
The town has plenty of history on offer too. It was the site of the Battle of Kinsale back in 1601 which saw Spanish and Irish fighters combine against the English. Additionally Charles Fort is one of the historic sites still standing, the fort is a rare example of a 17th century star shaped fort. Guided tours are the best way to experience many of Kinsale’s treasures. There are tours available in Charles Fort and also separate walking tours around the town.
Lastly for the golfers amongst you, Kinsale has one of Ireland’s most famous links courses, The Old Head of Kinsale. Links Magazine even voted the course The Most Spectacular Golf Course making it a must play for all golf enthusiasts out there.
