Kenmare is known for its’ breath taking scenery and wonderful hospitality. Located at the head of Kenmare Bay in County Kerry this small town has only a population of 1800 but becomes much busier during the summer months.

The original Irish name for the town was “Neidin” which means nest, because the town is beautifully nestled amongst the surrounding mountains. This is a great stopping point for visitors looking to explore two of Ireland’s famous tourist trails, The Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara. The Ring of Kerry is the better known route but both tourist trails are amazingly beautiful and right at Kenmare’s doorstep.

Just to the north of the town is Killarney National Park which includes the likes of the Gap of Dunloe.

For those looking to spend a bit more time in the town itself, Kenmare is well known for gourmet food and also a lace tradition that dates back to the 19th century during the Great Famine. Also out in the bay of Kenmare there is a lot on offer for those looking to get involved in water sports and fishing.
